In a unique collaboration, Enigma Vehicle Systems Limited, MLS (formerly Meck Lock UK) and CESAR provided by Datatag ID Ltd have come together to offer a one-stop shop for the industry’s first 4 star combined security systems as rated under the new Thatcham 5 Star Rating scheme. The new combined 4 star systems offer users many benefits from the cost savings of insurance discounts and reduced theft to their transferability from one machine to another, offering customers an investment in security with unlimited life that can also be updated in the future to incorporate new advances in technology.

Ian Elliot of the Plant and Agricultural National Intelligence Unit (PANIU) run by the police, which has been heavily involved with Thatcham in creating the new 5 star scheme, said: "I must congratulate Enigma Vehicle Systems, MLS and CESAR, provided by Datatag ID, who, despite being competitor businesses, have joined together to meet the security challenge of the new Thatcham five-star scheme. It's great to see such co-operation in providing a one stop solution for end users of equipment."
"Each system has its merits. All have a part to play in securing equipment, but having one supplier of all three Thatcham approved systems must make it easier for owner operators and fleet owners alike. Certainly from a Police perspective, those companies who are more security conscious and invest in security suffer far less theft and related on costs than those that don't.... which should make it an easy choice!!"
The Thatcham 5 star scheme is the most significant development ever in plant security and has been introduced to combat the huge increase in the theft of construction equipment in the UK. Ian Elliot of PANIU commented: "PANIU has been working with the Insurance Industry and Thatcham Motor Research Centre to create the new 5 Star standards for the security of plant equipment. This has been done to make it easier for plant owners and insurers alike to determine security products that have been comprehensively and independently tested on equipment to protect them against theft. The new scheme highlights property marking, immobilisation and tracking technologies all of which have a part to play in securing equipment. A number of different companies offer products which have been extensively tested and are compliant with the Thatcham Five Star standards."
The new Thatcham star ratings provide a layered approach to security measures in construction plant with 1 star being the entry point, rising to 5 stars for a comprehensive security package, based on the following key security points: Vehicle identification; Key Security; Immobilisation of Machine; Peripheral Security and After-Theft Tracking Systems. The Thatcham recommended minimum star rating for standard fit security is 3 stars.
The 4 star rated systems being offered by Enigma, MLS and CESAR are unique in the marketplace and the combined products are the highest rated standard security systems available. They combine the Skyline GPS tracking and security system from Enigma, immobiliser products from MLS and CESAR (the Construction Equipment Security And Registration Scheme) run by Datatag.
